Each year, thousands of music lovers head to Glastonbury in the UK – just in the same way thousands of trucks head to Truckfest in Peterborough! The entire UK truck industry uses the Truckfest show to highlight the latest vehicles and developments in the world of trucking, and showcase the industry to the general public. Of course, Greencarrier Freight Services was there to participate with drivers and trucks.
Representing Greencarrier with drivers and trucks at Truckfest
Truckfest is held annually at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. This year, it celebrated its 33rd year and the festival stretched over two days at the beginning of May. Greencarrier had three trucks with drivers, which braved the cold weather to represent Greencarrier at the festival.
100 000 people visited the Truckfest show
Truckfest has over 2000 trucks on show and is recognised as “Crufts for Trucks”. All of the trucks are judged and entered into categories. Over the two days, 100 000 people visited the show, which provides various activities appealing to all of the family. Monster trucks, stunt motorcycles, live music and celebrities from ‘Ice Road Truckers’ all added to the event to make it a real festival atmosphere spread over the huge 250 acre showground.
The true stars of the Truckfest show are the thousands of trucks that attend each year; from working trucks and fleets to giant ‘American Supertrucks’ with gleaming chrome and stunning airbrushed artwork. The logistics sector contributes £85 billion to the UK economy and many of the fleet operators from the smallest single truck fleet to some of the largest fleets attended the event.
A real dedication and love for trucks
The weather was a little below the seasonal average with snow and sleet forecast over the two days. But thankfully, it held off and the Greencarrier team spent most of Saturday cleaning and polishing every centimetre of our units ready for the judging on the Sunday. Specialist cleaning products were used inside and outside of the units as the judges checked every single part of the truck – a reflection of the real dedication and love the drivers have for their Greencarrier-trucks!
Sustainable and eco-friendly innovations for road haulage and logistics
We had a great time over the two days, networking with people from different sectors in the transport and logistics industry. Truckfest is billed as the biggest get-together in the lorry-calendar, and still wowing the crowds. There are a lot of things happening with road haulage and logistics and as to Greencarrier, we cannot wait to find out what the future holds. Perhaps, not only gleaming chrome and stunning airbrushed artwork, but also sustainable and eco-friendly innovations? Wouldn’t that be something!
