Celebrating 25 years of Greencarrier – The people behind the journey: Charlotte Bernerheim

When Greencarrier celebrates 25 years, it’s not just about the company – it’s about the people who shaped it. One of those people is our Head of HR Charlotte Bernerheim, who’s been part of Greencarrier since the very beginning.

Learning the ropes from day one

Charlotte’s journey began in the import department as a young, curious professional at the end of 1999.

“I was eager to learn” she says. “I absorbed everything – how shipping works, insights about Evergreen, the processes, and as much as I could from my team members.”

Her early days were a crash course in logistics, and it wasn’t long before she expanded her knowledge to the export side. Switching roles allowed her to see both ends of the logistics chain and gave her a fuller understanding of operations.

Finding her true passion: People and collaboration

What truly sparked Charlotte’s passion, however, wasn’t just logistics – it was people.

“I realized early on what drives me is working closely with customers, understanding their needs, and continuously improving how we work together.”

It was this realization that led her to a new path: sales. She approached her manager and shared her ambition of becoming a salesperson. That initiative paid off. Charlotte began assisting the marketing and sales department, gradually deepening her understanding of the business.

Stepping into leadership

Her career continued to evolve and eventually, she became a General Manager, leading the operations team of  Greencarrier Liner Agency in Sweden.

As Charlotte deepened her leadership experience, she became increasingly drawn to the broader perspective of people – how culture, engagement, and leadership collectively shape business success. This interest, combined with her strong belief in the power of engagement and collaboration, led her to take the next step: working full-time as an HR Manager.

“Few things are more rewarding than seeing people grow into their potential. Supporting their development, recognizing their strengths, and watching them thrive – that’s what gives me energy.”

Over the years, she has led teams and built a culture of collaboration, trust, and mutual support.

Today, Charlotte serves as Head of HR at Greencarrier Group, where she helps shape the group’s strategic direction while focusing on developing people, strengthening leadership, and fostering a culture grounded in commitment, involvement, humor and joy. In this role, she believes in the importance of balancing empathy with a strong business focus – ensuring both people and performance remain at the core.

The Greencarrier Spirit

What has kept Charlotte at Greencarrier all these years?

“The possibility to grow and develop. The company vibe,” she says. “The international pulse, the fast pace of logistics, the chance to work with people all over the world. And of course – my colleagues. This company is full of amazing people”, she adds with a smile. “During my years at Greencarrier, I’ve had so much fun, and I’ve laughed, a lot.”

Today, her role allows her to meet new people, empower others, and use her experience to support the group’s strategic direction.

“I’m grateful to still be learning and to help the group move forward. I’m especially thankful for my fantastic HR colleagues, their support, drive, and teamwork mean a lot. Together, we’re building a culture where people can thrive.”

A memory lane filled with people

When asked to pick a favorite memory, Charlotte pauses.

“That’s the hardest question. I have so many. But what I know for sure is – they’re always with others. The best moments have been when we’ve had fun together, solved things as a team, shared the journey. That’s what stays with me.”

Charlotte’s advice for talents entering the logistics industry

“Be curious and dare to try. The logistics industry is constantly evolving, and there are many different paths to explore – from customer service and sales to digital solutions, sustainability work, and leadership. A willingness to learn and contribute to improvements is more important than having all the answers from the start. And finally – collaboration. It’s together that we make things happen.”
