As freight volumes are increasing, we are extending our sea freight consolidation service with more departures from China to Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Combining diverse cargoes into one consolidation is a good option in many ways – naturally depending on the company and their needs. Let’s dig into it!

What is LCL?

LCL (Less than Container Load) can be described as the consignments equivalent of public transport. But instead of passengers sharing a transport, several smaller shipments are assembled and shipped together. The freight forwarder combines the consignments to make up a full container load. At the port of destination, the consolidated shipment is separated back into the original individual consignments for delivery to their respective consignees. This arrangement allows the goods to be shipped as containerised cargo at lower shipping rates, and the customer achieves substantial savings on freight costs.

Which company will benefit from LCL?

The retail, automotive, oil and gas, chemicals, and ecommerce industries are frequent users of LCL consolidation. There are almost no limitations as to what kind of goods can be shipped. Many small and midsize businesses use LCL frequently simply because they don’t have the volume to fill a full container, and waiting until they do would mean missing delivery deadlines. LCL consolidation allows these companies to ship their cargo without waiting.

At Greencarrier , we can calculate the breakpoint of when to use LCL or when to use a full container, via our Freight Calculator offered to customers via our e-carrier portal, so that our customers know at what point a full container load becomes more economical.

Minimised lead times with more departures from China to Scandinavia and the Baltics

We offer scheduled departures from Yantian, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Ningbo, Qingdao and Xiamen in China, and Keelung, Kaohsiung and Taichung in Taiwan, to Gothenburg, Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Århus in Scandinavia, Gdynia in Poland and Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius in the Baltics. Departures from Scandinavia go to Busan in South Korea and Shanghai in China.

Due to increased freight volumes we are now extending our sea freight consolidation service with more departures from China to Scandinavia. There will be ships leaving from Shanghai two times a week, giving our customers more flexibility and improved planning of the supply chain.

Greencarrier all the way with – operating our own LCL service

We operate our own LCL service, so the movement of cargo is fully under our control during the entire logistics chain. The cargo is handled in our own warehouses and shipped in our own dedicated containers. In addition we provide solutions for everything related to import including customs clearance, cargo inspection, warehousing, labelling, sorting and groupage.

Working together for joint success

I can see a trend where more companies go from air freight to sea freight, not only to achieve substantial savings on freight costs, but also in concern of the environment. Transporting empty space is a wasteful form of transport, while sharing space (the same principle as with public transport) has environmental benefits. Sharing space means that you use the full capacity of the containers, and by combining diverse cargoes into single shipments you contribute to a greener environment. In other words, we are working together for joint success; for the environment, for your wallet and for your peace of mind.
