One thing, that is extra close to our hearts at Greencarrier Freight Services, is the environment. Consequently, being one of the first transport company to become a member of the Clean Shipping Network makes us extra happy! In this blog post I will tell you more about the network and what our new membership actually means.

A further step to contribute to a greener planet

Environmental concerns are always on top of Greencarrier’s Freight Services agenda and part of our long-term strategy. We have said it before: The phrase “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something” might seem cliché, but that doesn’t make it any less true! We work continuously with various projects to take responsibility for the environment. And now, to be part of the Clean Shipping Network, is a further step to contribute to a greener planet.

So what is the Clean Shipping Network?

Protection and restoration of the marine and atmospheric environment

The Clean Shipping Network is a global environmental organisation exclusively dedicated to shipping. It promotes guidelines aimed at the protection and restoration of the marine and atmospheric environment that are consistent with sustainable development. The network acts for a sustainable development in the shipping industry by encouraging ship owners to use and choose techniques and measures with less environmental impact.

Having a supply chain oriented environmental strategy is one of the most important motives for joining the network. It provides a platform for exchange of knowledge and members meets three to four times a year to discuss developments and achievements or to bring any thoughts and ideas for common consideration.

Clean Shipping Index Tool – measuring environmental performance

As a member, we have access to the Clean Shipping Index Tool. With this tool, it is possible for us to evaluate and compare our carriers’ environmental performance based on emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, waste and heavy chemicals. During our supplier assessment, shipowners will be rated with scores for index presence and environmental data sharing. My opinion is that there is a big interest in sustainable transport in the industry and that the levels of environmental awareness and concerns are very high.

To me, joining the network and accessing the information is a natural way forward, not only to care for the environment, but to meet our customers’ requirements on environmentally friendly and sustainable logistics and transport solutions.
