At just 23 years old, Sankar Siva stepped into a challenge that would shape the start of his Greencarrier journey – establishing a brand-new office in Norway. As we celebrate 25 years of Greencarrier, we’re highlighting the people whose drive, courage, and commitment have built our story. In this interview, Sankar shares what it was like to be the first employee in a new location, the lessons learned along the way, and the memories that make the journey unforgettable.
When did your journey at Greencarrier begin, and what attracted you to the company in the first place?
I joined Greencarrier Consolidators in May 2023 after hearing about the position through a former colleague. What attracted me the most was the opportunity to be part of establishing a new office in Norway. Being the first employee in a new company came with a lot of responsibility, which appealed to me, especially at the age of 23. I was also drawn to the company’s strong focus on sustainability and environmental values. It felt like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up on.
How has your role developed, and what do you work with today?
As the first employee, I had a lot to take on initially. I had to learn a new system and manage everything from import and export to invoicing and operations. It was intense with long days and moments that felt overwhelming. The upside was that I learned a lot in a short time.
Now that we’ve grown and added more people to the team, I have a more defined role and primarily handle import operations.
Is there a particular project or initiative that has been especially fun, exciting, or challenging?
Every shipment feels like a small project, and there have been many memorable experiences, both good and challenging. What matters most to me is learning and growing from each one.
What has been the most valuable learning experience during your time at the company?
Professionally, I’ve learned a lot through my day-to-day work and from collaborating with colleagues both in Norway and abroad. On a personal level, I’ve grown in terms of speaking up and taking ownership. Having supportive colleagues who encourage and guide you makes a huge difference.
Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Greencarrier? Something that stands out?
We’ve had many great gatherings, especially with Greencarrier Liner in Norway, filled with fun and team-building activities. But if I had to pick one highlight, it would be the trip to Ellery Beach House in Stockholm with the entire group. It was an amazing experience. I’m looking forward to our upcoming trip to Italy this year. It’s going to be great!
If you could give one piece of career advice to someone just starting, what would it be?
Step up, take responsibility, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That’s where the real growth happens.
